Paramedic job market
Paramedic jobs in the North West
20 NHS organisations in the North West of the kinds that employ paramedics, band 5 starting at £32,073 under the England 2026/27 pay circular, and 12 approved courses at 5 local universities feeding the same labour market. Who hires, what a first post involves here, what it actually pays, and where the vacancies are advertised.
What a first post here looks like
Newly qualified paramedics in the North West are appointed at band 5, and that band means the same thing in every organisation in the region: £32,073 at the bottom, £39,043 at the top, under the England pay circular for 2026/27. No employer here can outbid another for you on basic pay, which changes what you are really choosing between.
The post itself is usually not rotational. You are appointed to a named service — operational shifts from an ambulance station on a double-crewed ambulance and a rapid response vehicle, working through a structured newly qualified paramedic consolidation programme with a practice educator — and your caseload builds inside it. That makes the first job in the North West more consequential than it would be in a rotational profession, because it starts to define your specialism straight away. It also makes supervision the thing to interrogate at interview: a single-handed post in a small organisation can be excellent or isolating, and the difference is entirely whether there is a named supervisor and a peer network attached to it.
The North West has both sides of the market: 20 NHS organisations that plausibly employ paramedics, and 12 approved courses producing graduates into it. That matters when you are judging how hard a first post will be to get. Where local course provision is heavy relative to the number of employers, expect more applicants per advert and more weight on where you did your placements — students who placed with a trust are known quantities when a band 5 post opens there. Between them, the 17 organisations here that publish a workforce return employ 2,850 full-time equivalent paramedics, which is the closest thing to a measure of how many posts exist in the region. A further 11 NHS organisations in the region are of a type that rarely holds posts in this profession, so they are left out of the list below.
One honest benchmark: the median full-time salary across all occupations in North West is £37,361 (2025). A band 5 post at £32,073 therefore starts below the regional median , and reaches £39,043 at the top of the band — before any unsocial-hours enhancement, on-call payment or progression to band 6. That comparison is the reason regional cost of living matters more to this decision than the pay scale does: the scale is national, and the money it buys is not.
Who employs paramedics in the North West
NHS organisations in the region whose services plausibly hold posts in this profession. Each row links through to the organisation — to what it means for a paramedic where a page for that pairing was built, and to the organisation’s own page otherwise, which carries the workforce it publishes and how to reach its recruitment.
This is a directory of employers, not a vacancy list. An organisation appearing here has services of a kind that employ paramedics; it does not mean a post is open today. Organisations are placed in the region their headquarters sits in, so a trust near a boundary may recruit across it.
